Thank you for purchasing Sketchbook 8! San Diego Comic-Con is the place this sketchbook was born so many years ago, and it is the event that remains the unveiling of so many new projects. This year, as in many past, my wife Jessica Steele-Sanders has been instrumental in producing the sketchbook, and has done yet another beautiful job. She edits it, lays it out, and gets it printed.

This sketchbook features a series of illustrations depicting a number of Florida cities and attractions. Can you guess which ones they are? It also includes a new centerfold which was a small labor of love, and a few sketches of our two dogs, Brody and Buck. I've been drawing Brody for years now, depicting him as a concerned individual who seems to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders. In late 2018, he he got a new roommate, Buck, who is a rescue St. Bernard/shepherd mix found wandering the streets in Kansas. Now he lives with us, and is a new inspirations for some drawings. Unlike Brody, Buck seems a little less plugged-in to happenings around him. But he has a big heart (and a very very loud voice). I draw Buck as a second-graded who is more the size of a sixth-grader. He carries two lunches to school and has a drooling problem. I imagine if he and Brody went to school, it would be much harder for Buck.

Anyways, there's a lot of stuff in here, sometimes finished, sometimes sketchy ideas waiting to be colored to or to find an inked line down the road. So enjoy this latest collection of drawings since last summer. It's a wonder I had any at all with the schedule I've kept in my day job this past year! But I wouldn't miss the sketchbook for all the world -- I'm always so proud of it, and consider it a small treasure.
